Adam
Young is a
graduate of Mount Allison University's Fine Arts Program where he
focused on painting and drawing. After graduating in 2003, Adam
freelanced as an illustrator for newspapers across Canada. He graduated
from Crandall University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Education and have
been teaching art for the past 3 years. He recently moved to Fogo Island,
Newfoundland where his fiancé was born. Adam is currently focusing all
of his time on his art. His work is inspired by the landscape,
architecture and people of Fogo Island.
Artist Statement
Fogo Island is situated in Notre Dame Bay
on the north east coast of Newfoundland. As one of the most scenic
outports in the province, Fogo Island boasts not just beautiful
landscape and unique architecture but some of the friendliest people.
Like the people of the island, this series illustrates the perseverance
of the buildings and the land against the often cruel elements of
nature. Each building characterizes the personality of the people of
Fogo Island, symbolizing their strength, warmth and humour.
